For these tests we used close microphone spacing and combined the two curves with allowance for the radiating areas of the different sources. Our FFT quasi-anechoic measurements were made with the speaker standing in the clear, as far as possible from any walls.īass response was measured separately for the driven woofers and the passive cone. The 1-foot distance was used for our room-response measurements. Since no specific suggestions for room placement were supplied with our samples of the Klipsch kg4, we tried them first about 1 foot from the rear wall and moved them through a range sufficient to establish that the speaker-to-wall spacing was not at all critical. There are no external controls or adjustments. The binding-post terminals, recessed into the rear of the cabinet, accept banana plugs, including dual plugs on 3/4-inch centers, as well as wires. On the rear panel of the enclosure is a 12-inch passive cone radiator that extends the low-frequency response limits of the smaller bass drivers. At the top of the panel is a horn-loaded tweeter-a device unusual in home speakers-with mouth dimensions of 8-1/2 x 3 inches. The front panel of the kg4 contains two white plastic-cone woofers, one above the other, with a nominal diameter of 8 inches. The dark brown, wood-framed cloth grille is retained by strong plastic fasteners and requires considerable effort for removal. Its handsomely finished oak-veneer enclosure is 24-1/4 inches high, 15-3/4 inches wide, and 10-3/4 inches deep, and the system weighs 45 pounds. Often the volume must be higher to get good overall range, bass treble and upper highs. The Klipsch kg4 is a two-way floor-standing speaker system featuring unusually high efficiency (for a home speaker) combined with an extended, smooth frequency response. I was impressed with the dynamic sound at low volume. When I walked in this time they were playing at a very low level. I decided after a few weeks to go back and give them a listen, the first time they were not on. Also they are in mint condition even came with the instruction sheet. American made, signed in back by the inspector and the tester and oak veneer. Spittenkittens wrote:Awhile back I ask if anyone had heard the Klipsch kg 1.5 but no replies. There are things you can do with smaller speakers that you simply can't do with floor standing speakers, and most important the sound does not suffer. The crossovers seem better than some I have seen, cabinets are nicely done, no little opp's like I sometimes see in Chinese made products(nothing wrong with Chinese made but sometimes qc needs improvement) So yes I like these 20 year old American made Klipsch speakers.

I am not sure what makes a good driver and what makes a good speaker. I am happy with them, I tried moving them up a little higher and the brightness went away. They do have a great soundstage, better than my floor standing speakers. I made all my living room furniture out of solid oak years back. I would not mind solid black finish, but the wood grain pattern is just insulting to me. I am a wood lover, the beauty of wood is hard to beat. I must admit there is one thing I just hate about most new speakers, the ugly fake black wood plastic covering. So they did take some getting used to.Then also seem better than the claimed 90db. I realized I have never had bookshelf or monitor speakers in my life. The same as the speakers they replaced which had good bass.No fears, I tested them with a test record and they could hit the 31 khz and barely the 25 khz. The specs say 50-20,00 khz and 90db at 1 watt. The first few minutes I thought they sounded bright, it took 3 days for me to get used to a new sound and appreciate the detail these speakers have. The first thing I noticed is the sound when the stylus touched the record is a higher pitch on the dead wax than I was used to. I got them for the price I decided to offer them and took them home. Often the volume must be higher to get good overall range, bass treble and upper highs. Awhile back I ask if anyone had heard the Klipsch kg 1.5 but no replies.
